ocial Media are the acceptable resources dedicated to the self-promotion of egotists.

I should know, I am enough of an egotist to post regularly on Facebook and LinkedIn.   Witness, if you have arrived here from a social media link!

Facebook used to work well as self-promotion disguised as keeping in touch with family and friends, leavened with added photos.  These days, it just dissolves into adverts and promotions driven by outdated algorithms.  The algorithms have clearly lost interest in my interests, or I imagine they would if I had any interest in looking at the interests they are promoting.

LinkedIn is worse.  You get the self-promotion without the diversion of irrelevant adverts.  Most posts rely on bon mots, lists and charts in the guise of management wisdom, or at least short cuts to being a good leader, entrepreneur, all-round good manager masquerading as a clever clogs (delete as appropriate).

I am not sure if such a thing as an algorithm to create a self-denying ordinance  exists.  So, until there is, moving to Iran, where the state has shut down the Internet with special attention to social media, is looking an increasingly attractive option.
